Antenatal care is usually shared between the Midwife, GP and local NHS hospital services.
This is run by the practice nurses and health visitor. The practice nurses give immunisations and the health visitor offers weighing, developmental checks, feeding advice and support for parents/carers. A doctor is always available for unwell mothers and babies to be seen.

The clinic is currently being run at the Marylebone Health Centre on Mondays between 14:00 – 16:00.

All patients have a routine health check with a nurse on registration (‘New Patient Health Check’). This includes your medical history, height, weight, blood pressure, urine test and other tests if clinically indicated. For patients over 50 we recommend a health promotion consultation and those over 75 we advise annual checks.
Women from 25 to 65 should have a cervical smear test, for early detection and prevention of cervical cancer, from a nurse or doctor every 3 to 5 years.
Women over 50 should have a mammogram every 3 years, for early detection of breast cancer, your doctor or nurse will advise you how to go about this.
All babies and children are subject to routine checks at 6-8 weeks, 6-8 months, 18-24 months and 3-5 years (pre-school) arranged by our health visitor.
A counselling service is available following a suitability assessment by one of the counsellors. Please make an appointment with one of the GPs if you feel you may benefit from counselling.
The practice offers additional services including osteopathy and Herbal Medicine. Suitability is assessed by the appropriate therapist following a GP referral.

If you live in Westminster and are taking warfarin, you can now be seen closer to home at the Marylebone Health Centre rather than a hospital. The Health Centre is now offering services for people who need to take Warfarin on a regular basis. Warfarin is a prescribed drug available in tablet form. If you are taking this drug you need regular blood tests to monitor how thin your blood is.
Westminster PCT and the health centre are working closely with St Mary's Hospital consultants to ensure staff providing this service in general practice do so to the highest standards that are as good as any hospital based service. Following your confirmation that you would like to attend the clinic at the Marylebone Health Centre, a practice nurse will advise you when you can be seen and arrange an appointment for you. The appointment will ensure a smooth transition from hospital care so there is no gap in your treatment. The clinics will take place usually on Tuesdays 8.30 - 11.30am and on Thursdays 9.00 - 11.00am.
You will be seen by a trained nurse or GP who will be responsible for deciding your Warfarin dose and the monitoring of your treatment. Your blood will be tested, your Warfarin dose decided and a new appointment given. You will also have the opportunity to discuss any worries that you might have about your anti-coagulation treatment.
Health Trainer Service
The Health Trainer Service offers free and confidential one-to-one sessions to people living in Westminster. Delivered by specially trained health trainers, the aim of the service is to support people to improve their health through their own actions, by setting and achieving personal goals. The service can benefit those who wish to:
Change their diet (particularly in response to a health condition)
The Health Trainer Service can also signpost or refer clients to relevant local activities and services.
Alcohol Health Assessment Service - New Service At Marylebone Health Centre
Do you like a few drinks at the weekend? Do you drink alcohol socially or at home?
If you drink to get drunk, or drink more heavily than you’re used to, you can’t be sure what the effects could be.
Regularly drinking more than the recommended amount of daily units or rapidly drinking too much in one go both have their risks. It is recommend that you should not regularly drink more than–4 units of alcohol a day for men, 2–3 units of alcohol a day for women. ’Regularly’ means drinking every day or most days of the week.
If you drink more than this, the risks to your health and personal safety start to increase – especially if you regularly drink large amounts over a short period of time.
Pregnant women and women trying to conceive should avoid alcohol altogether and never drink more than 1–2 units once or twice a week.

SICK CERTIFICATES/FIT FOR WORK CERTIFICATES-If you have been an inpatient the hospital should give you a fit for work certificate up until the date they feel you will be fit to return to work
SICK CERTIFICATES FOR UNDER 7 DAYS-you should provide your own self certificate. If you are unwell over 7 days we would ONLY provide a certificate if you have consulted with the doctor and the doctor feels you are still NOT fit for work. We cannot provide post-dated certificates.
SCHOOL LETTERS- we do not provide certificates for school absences or late returns of work. We appreciate that schools can demand such information however we have to be fair to all our patients and we can no longer make exceptions.
RESULTS OF TESTS TAKEN IN HOSPITAL- Consultants occasionally ask patients to obtain results for tests taken in hospitals from their GP. This is not appropriate as your GP may not have access to all the required information to discuss/decisions on results or treatments. To discuss results/delayed appointments etc you should contact the hospital directly.
MEDICATION FOLLOWING OUTPATIENT APPOINTMENTS- Hospitals should issue medication following outpatient attendance at least sufficient to meet the patient’s immediate clinical needs until their GP receives the relevant clinic letter and can prescribe accordingly.
HOUSING SUPPORT FORMS- We only respond to letters pertaining to housing if the letters are sent from the council
PIP/BENEFIT LETTERS- We only respond to letters pertaining to social care benefits if the letters are sent from the council
MENTAL CAPACITY FOR FINANCIAL RELATED MATTERS- we cannot assess someone’s capacity to manage their financial affairs. Please speak to social services where relevant, or a solicitor.
PASSPORT FORMS/VISA APPLICATIONS- This is NOT an NHS service and we do not provide this
FIT TO PARTICPATE- We cannot confirm that you are fit to participate in certain activities- if Unclear check with the Administration Manager.
WE ARE NOT AN OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE- for all matters related to occupation health including what activities I can do, work place assessments, am I fit for work and Hep B cover you must speak to an occupational health service.
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
